This will be Desmond’s second visit to the club as he gave a very interesting pictorial tour of the National Botanic Garden of Wales in October 2015.

He proved to be a very popular speaker and even sent a letter to the club saying how much he had enjoyed his visit and the reception he had received.

Apart from December there will be monthly lectures up to and includingJune next year, with all details appearing on the membership card.

Membership has been due for renewal from September 1 and the fee remains at £5 for the year.

New members are always welcome and can of course attend the monthly lectures and other club activities.

Memers can join at the lecture or on Thursday and Saturday mornings between 10am and midday when club working parties are present at Cliff Cottage.

The lectures are always sociable events an invariably the speakers stay behind to answer questions and enjoy a cup of tea.

There seems to have been a resurgence of interest in allotment gardening this growing season and this is reflected in an encouraging increase in new members in recent months. It is hoped these members will find something to interest them in the forthcoming lecture programme.

Another significant date for the diary is Friday, October 12, when the Annual General Meeting of the club takes place in Cliff Cottage at 7.30pm.

This is the occasion when reports are presented by the President, Chairman, Treasurer and Show Secretary.

Elections then take place to determine who will serve as officers and general committee members for the forthcoming year.

The AGM is an important meeting in the calender of the cluband it is hoped there will be good attendance.

At the committee meeting held on Friday, September 22, an in depth discussion took place on all aspects of the successful annual show and BBQ that had taken place on Saturday, September 1.

The Chairman Paul Jones, thanked all members of the committee for the brilliant team work that had helped to ensure the success of this annual event.

He said that it had been an enjoyable afternoon with plenty of fun and banter amongst the helpers, and he produced a chart which showed that there had been a significant increase in the net income when compared with last years show.

All monies raised by the club are used to help defray the costs of running and maintaining Cliff Cottage which is a historic grade II listed building.
