the moment, and have built some decent momentum with their recent wins over Neath, Cross Keys and Llanelli. If we stutter then it is likely to be a very difficult day for us.

“We’d love a big day out at Principality Stadium and the history of this club dictates that we should be battling for silverware.

“That brings its own pressure and we feel that the fans and the city deserve some success after waiting so long for something.”

Bedwas made it a hat-trick of wins with their 18-10 home league triumph over their relegation rivals Llanelli.

The win moved them eight points clear of the west Walians in the fourth and final automatic relegation place with six games to go.

The win by Bedwas was also good news for Bridgend, who had 14 points from the boot of full back Owen Howe to thank for their 19-17 win over Carmarthen Quins.

It was the Ravens’ first home win since 22 December and moved them out of the automatic relegation places.

“That was a big win for us and the players showed a huge amount of desire and intent to get out of the relegation zone.

“We hadn’t won at home for quite a while, so this will be a huge boost for our confidence,” said Bridgend head coach Matt Silva.

“We’ve still got two of three games in hand on some of our rivals in the bottom half of the table and it is our intention not only to be out of the bottom four, but also to avoid the play-off game.”

Merthyr’s bid for a hat-trick of titles stayed on course with a 34-26 home win over Ebbw Vale that included four tries.

That enabled the Ironmen to move a further point ahead of Cardiff at the top to open up the gap to two points.

Terry Gee ran in two tries and full back Matt Jarvis kicked 12 points to help see off a stubborn visiting side that were only a point behind at the break.

Third placed Pontypridd had their game against Cross Keys called-off and now have two games to make up on the top two.

They are 10 points behind Cardiff and 12 adrift of Merthyr, although they have to meet both sides at Sardis Road before the season ends.
