Life-saving device installed at pub in Maesteg

-

RESIDENTS in Maesteg Park now have around-the-clock access to life-saving equipment thanks to fundraising by the community.

A community public access defibrillator (CPAD) has been installed outside the Red Cow pub and can be used if someone suffers a cardiac arrest.

Funding for the device was raised by Maesteg Park FC and Unique Fitness.

A Maesteg Park FC sopkesman said: “There have been several people in sport suffering cardiac arrest during training or matches and as our club is situated in the Valleys, this was a concern for us.

“We decided to raise funds for a defibrillator but wanted the whole community to benefit, not just the football club and gym.

“A lot of hard work and effort was put into fundraising and local people have been extremely generous, but it will all be well worth it if the defibrillator saves even one life.

“Special thanks go to Brian Thomas at Ferriers Estate Agents, for his longstanding support of Maesteg Park FC and the generous donation provided towards our campaign.

“Also, our gratitude to Maesteg Council for their donation from the community locality budget which enabled us to finally reach our target and complete the purchase of the defibrillator.

“The Red Cow have kindly offered an easily accessible location in the community to site the defibrillator, which will be available to use 24 hours a day.

“We’d like to thank everyone in the community who supported this initiative and CARIAD for providing the equipment.”

Anyone who needs to access the defibrillator in an emergency can call 999 and the operator will give them a key code to open the box. The defibrillator can be used by anybody and gives the operator verbal instructions of how to use it.

A CPR first-aid evening is also to be arranged.
