Drawing pins found scattered on cycle route

A MOTHER-OF-TWO was left shocked after discovering “hundreds” of drawing pins scattered all over a cycling track in Bridgend.

Mary John was walking along the cycle track in Blackmill with her father and two young daughters on August 7 when she spotted the pins, which she believes had been placed there deliberately.

The cycle track from Brynmenyn up to Blackmill is regularly used by cyclists, runners and dog walkers – and the 33-year-old is urging people to be vigilant when using the path.

“As we were walking along the track I noticed some pins on the floor, so I moved them out of the way. As I carried on walking, just metres away there was more scattered again,” she said.

Mary, who lives in Bridgend, said that every few metres she spotted more pins.

She added: “Luckily, my girls were in a pram, but normally they like to run around.

“What if a child was running and fell over? They could really hurt themselves if they fell on to the pins.

“Dogs could also walk on them – it could really cause some damage.

“When I got home I also noticed that pins were also on the wheels of the pram as well as on the bottom of my shoes.

“I didn’t realise this until I got home. I couldn’t even tell you how many I found but there were hundreds of them on the track.”

Before discovering the drawing pins, Mary always thought that the track was a safe place to take the kids.

“I couldn’t believe it. I have been back to the track since on my own – you can’t really relax now.”

She added: “My friend has said that she’s not going to take her kids back there now, as she doesn’t feel like it is a safe place.

“I just want to raise awareness of this so people can be more vigilant when they go there.

“It’s putting people off from using it.”
