Strangers praised for kindness in coming to mum’s aid

THE mother of a child who struggles to communicate has shared the heart-warming act of kindness a pair of strangers did to help her in a difficult situation.

Jess Willis, 24, had taken her two-year-old son Morgan to the Tesco in Bridgend after a 12-hour-shift to treat the youngster to a Toy Story DVD.

But when the toddler began to get overwhelmed by the situation, two fellow shoppers came to her rescue.

Jess, from Sarn, said: “Sometimes Morgan can be a bit difficult to get to sleep at night, so I take him for a drive.

“I took him to Tesco to get him a Toy Story DVD and some nicies. When I got to the till I realised my card wasn’t in my purse as I had taken it out to pay for petrol with my husband.

“I said don’t worry about it and to take everything back, but Morgan was getting really upset.

“Because he can’t communicate very well, he was getting a bit frustrated because he thought I was taking it off him for the sake of it.”

Morgan, who has severe receptive and expressive language delay, is currently undergoing tests which will help to determine whether he is autistic.

Jess, who is also mum to one-year-old Elias, said: “There was a pregnant couple by the till over and they came over and said they’d pay for it.

“I said I had got enough for Morgan’s drink in coins, but they just said it was fine, it was done.

“When you hear children screaming and crying, people think they are a bit spoilt but this couple had realised he was upset.

“They didn’t even know the situation or the reason I couldn’t pay or why he was crying.

“I was embarrassed at first but after I was so grateful. It was just refreshing as you don’t always see things like that any more.”

For Jess, the situation is one which she and her family have had to adapt to after seeing Morgan develop in different ways to other children of his age.

Since the incident, she has shared an emotional Facebook post thanking the couple for their help but has been unable to find them.

She said: “Morgan started pre-school in April but we had noticed little things before.

“He had about five words and he didn’t know how to wave or respond to his name.

“They noticed things he can’t do, things that children his age can do, but he can do other things.

“At one and a half he was building tower blocks.

“He has about 20 toys and he can put them in size.

“He has a tablet and he’s like a whizz on it – he uses it to communicate,” she went on.

“They said it was a red flag that he could be autistic.”
