Past Versus Present Cricket Match: On Sunday, September 8, all roads in the Garw Valley will lead to Darren Park, where Blaengarw & Coedely Cricket Club will be hosting a Past vs Present cricket match.

Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the fun, with plenty of refreshmen­ts available all day. Start time is 1pm.

Pontycymme­r R.F.C 2nd XV: After years of not having enough players in the Garw Valley, Pontycymme­r Rugby Club have just announced that a 2nd XV is back up and running.

They will play their first fixture in over eight seasons, when Pyle 2nd XV visit Lawrence Park on Saturday, September 14. Kick off is at 2.30pm.

If you’re interested in putting a pair of boots on and playing 2nd team social rugby, then come along.

Recently, Ton Pentre were the visitors to Darren Park for the final home game of the 2019 campaign, and it was the home side that went in first on a lush green looking batting track.

The Garw Valley side’s innings was based around opening star bat Ross Evans, who looked in top drawer form, hitting a majestic 95 before getting out caught and bowled five runs short of his century. Also to catch the eye with the bat was Craig Butler, who served up a Caribbean style 36, with hard hitting, middle order batsman, Lloyd Hosey joining the party and bludgeonin­g a late 35 runs. At the end of their 40 overs, Blaengarw and Coedely had posted a respectabl­e 202. The pick of the visitors bowling attack was M.Thomas with figures of 8-0-33-3.

The visitors set about the run chase as if they had a bus to catch, with openers S.Hughes (92) and M.Thomas (74) putting on a titanic opening stand of 125, and after 34.1 overs they had passed the target set for them.
