He finished 12 seconds in front of Robert Golden (unattached) while top female Sian-Marie Lucas (Cambridge & Colebridge) on a first appearance in Maesteg Welfare Park clocked 20:17.

The remaining top-10 places were occupied by newcomer Mark Coles 21:28, Robert Lewis (both unattached) 22:01, Aled Hughes (Ogmore Phoenix) 22:28, Ryan Williams (Yr Hen Blwyf) 22:53, Nicky Bennett (unattached) 22:53, Keith Coleman (Ogmore Phoenix) 23:03 and Paul Jones (Vegan Runners) first-time competitor 23:08.

Libby Lavis (Brackla Harriers) was second female finisher, clocking 24:18 for 11th place, from Mari Higginson (Bridgend) 26:47 (19th), Jacqueline Villis 28:05 (21st), Kitty James (both unattached) pb 30:19 (26th) and Valerie Morris (Yr Hen Blwyf) 32:26 (27th). ADRIAN Pearce (Ogmore Phoenix) took ninth place last week in the Llantwit Major 10K, completing the course in 42:01, while Dave Moore (Brackla Harriers) was hot on his heels in 42:03 for 10th spot.

Ryan Evans (Ogmore Phoenix) was 12th to finish, clocking 42:38, ahead of John Lloyd (Brackla Harriers) 46:10 (29th), Aled Hughes 47:18 (35th), Steven James 49:18 (39th), Luke Jones (all Ogmore Phoenix) 49:33 (43rd), Ryan Bunce 49:33 (44th), Ian Ogilvie 49:35 (45th), James Baldwin 50:21 (49th), Charlotte Johns 50:38 and Jane Ogilvie (all Brackla Harriers) 55:24 (98th).

The race was won by Dan Bodmin (Aberdare Valley) in 36:39 ahead of Callum Priest (Pontypridd Roadents) 41:21.

The correspond­ing 5K event saw Josh Morgan (Bridgend) finish third in 26:49 with Tom Auffret (unattached) triumphant in 25:40. GINA Hardman pulled off some eyecatchin­g performanc­es in the Cardiff Pentath Series, winning the female section of the 10K event in 44:48.

The race was won by Neil Reynolds (San Domenico RC) in 36:03; Nicky Harris came 26th in 53:51 with Ogmore Phoenix team-mate Jo Gamba 14th female finisher 55:33.

In The Mile, Gina Hardman was fourth female registerin­g 7:02; Dave Williams (Les Croupiers) was the winner in 4:42 while three members of the Ogmore Phoenix club - Gareth Jenkins 7:16 (19th), Nicky Harris 7:34 (24th) and Jo Gamba 8:31 (18th female) - all ran well.

In the Half Marathon, Gina Hardman was fifth female in 1:42:54 with Reynolds, who finished in 1:21 once more victorious 1:21:35.

Times for the Ogmore Phoenix trio read Gareth Jenkins 1:56:03 (29th), Jo Gamba 2:13:12 (23rd female) and Nicky Harris 2:13:12 (34th). ANOTHER bumper turnout for the Severn Bridge Marathon saw 1,335 runners face the starter with Nick Stocker (Bridgend) best placed among the local contingent.

He recorded a time of 1:36:34 to secure 91st place while behind him came Andrew Jones (Cornelly Striders) 1:44:38 (10th 50+), Jonny Scorey (Pencoed Panthers) 1:47:19 (15th 50+), Luke Jones 1:48:14 (35th 40+) and Christophe­r Roberts (both Ogmore Phoenix) 1:49:45 (18th 50+).

Richard Henderson (Bedford & County) was successful in a time 1:12:52 from Matthew Rees (Swansea Harriers) 1:13:42 while Susan Duncan (Weston AAC) was first female home in 1:27:03.

A 10K run dovetailed with the main event, and this went to Jamie Parry (Parc Bryn Bach RC) 34:51 from Ben Miles (Pont-Y-Pwl RC) 36:08.

Lloyd Manning-Jones (Bridgend) finished 10th, he completed the course in 40:00 ahead of Gareth Davies (Ogmore Phoenix) 49:01 (3rd 50+), Chris Morgan (Cornelly Striders) 55:59 (77th Senior Men) and Christophe­r Bimson (Ogmore Phoenix) 56:29 (26th 45+). NIKI Puleio turned in a splendid time of 5:08 in the Butetown Mile that was staged over the Bank Holiday weekend in the Welsh capital.

It secured the former Llynfi Valley football star 11th spot with James Thie (Cardiff AAC) victorious in 4:28 with runner-up Chris Prothero (Parc Bryn Bach (RC) just four seconds behind. DAN May (Cornelly Striders) again won Bridgend Junior 2K Parkrun last Sunday with a time of 7:53 that was 13 seconds outside his best.

Joshua Morgan (Bridgend) followed him home in 8:19 with the next 14 young athletes also inside the 10-minute barrier.

The list comprised Samuel Cubbage 8:42, newcomer Joel Holdham (Pontyclun AC) 8:46, Matthew Clatworthy pb 8:48, Euan Jenkins pb 8:49, Adam Davis (Bridgend) 9:03, Rhydian Lloyd-Francis (Ogmore Phoenix) pb 9:04, Elliot Jenkins 9:13, Lewis Durston 9:14, Zachary Thomas 9:24, Jack Woodhouse 9:30, top female Mia Amerein (Bridgend) 9:42, Oliver Bain 9:44, Eloise Neenan 9:48 and Aled Rees pb 9:52.
