Top honour for patrol man

-

SIMON Blake from Bridgend is moving into the fast lane after being crowned Recovery Patrol of the Year – the AA’s highest accolade for its recovery patrols across the country.

In his new role, Simon will spend the next 12 months as the public face of the company, representing the UK’s biggest motoring organisation within the motor industry and before the media.

The 55-year-old joined the AA 14 years ago. In this time, Simon has not been afraid to go above and beyond to assist others. As well as his fulltime role, Simon also helps to train new recovery patrols and has even encouraged two of his nephews to join the company.

Simon says: “Being shortlisted for Recovery Patrol of the Year is one of the most humbling and rewarding things I have ever experienced in all my years with the AA. I am proud to be part of such a trusted brand and really enjoy the satisfaction of helping members in their situation. I’ve always enjoyed the challenges and variety the job brings so to be given this award means such a lot to me; I can’t wait to find out what’s next.”

James Hosking, chief operating officer at the AA, says: “These awards recognise the efforts of the AA people who go above and beyond to help others and Simon is a shining example of this.

“Recovery patrols spend the longest time with our members, rescuing those whose vehicles couldn’t be repaired. As someone who takes great pride in his work, showing courtesy and care for members and colleagues alike, Simon exemplifies the values which set AA patrols apart.”
