Coythrahen: Join the Christmas fun at Coytrahen Community Centre on Saturday, December 7 at 3pm.

Variety of stalls, Father Christmas brought by horse and trap, the Ogmore Valley Silver Band and the switch on of the Christmas lights.

Plenty for everyone, come along and enjoy yourself.

Wesley Church: There will be a number of special services in the church over the Christmas period in addition to the regular Sunday services each week at 10.30am and

3pm.

On Wednesday, December 18 at 5.30pm there is a carol service with contributi­ons by Tondu Primary School choir and on Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24 there is a Christingl­e Service at 5.30pm.

All are welcome to these events.

Ynysawdre CC:

Ynysawdre Community Council currently have four vacancies for a Councillor.

We cover Tondu, Ynysawdre and Brynmenyn. During this year YCC have provided events, bus trips, wonderful floral displays, summer play scheme, provide Ynysawdre Parish Hall for groups/events/ parties/workshops etc, maintain allotments and Public Rights of Way and Christmas lighting.

We would like to continue making improvemen­ts for the community and we need to fill the councillor vacancies.

Bus Trip: To Big Pit on Saturday, December 7. Leaving outside Tondu Cricket Club at 9am. £2 Adults, children free (sponspored by YCC).

A lovely family trip for the children to visit Santa - pay for this at the venue.

Bridgend and District Local History Society: Regular talk, 7pm-9pm, Wednesday, December 11 at Carnegie House.

R.F.C. and Pontardawe, on Saturday, November 23 – sadly had to be cancelled at short notice because Pontardawe deemed Lawrence Park unplayable.

Both the referee and Pontycymer were more than happy to play, but, under the new W.R.U. rules, Pontardawe refused to take the field and travelled back home.

Pontycymer then trained on Lawrence Park for an hour!

Rugby Fixture: On Saturday, December

7 - Pontycymer Rugby Club play a rearranged Division Three West Central fixture against Pontyates at Lawrence Park. Kick off is at 2.30pm.

Come along and support your local team.

Christmas Jumper Day: It was recently confirmed that Pontycymer Rugby Club will be holding their annual Christmas Jumper Day on Saturday, December 21 with a start time of 2pm.

Christmas Grotto will be distribute­d to local charities by Bridgend Lions Club.

If you can spare a few hours a month then why not join Bridgend Lions Club and support the local community.

St David’s Church, Laleston: Please find listed below details of the special Christmas services/events being held at St Davids Church:

Monday, December 16 – Christmas Carol Service starting at 6pm and a chance to meet Father Christmas after the service.

Sunday, December 22 – Fancy Dress Crib Service starting at 4pm. Children are invited to come in fancy dress – shepherds, kings, princesses and angels are particular­ly welcome.

Tuesday, December 24 – A Very Modern, Family Carol Service at 3.30pm. With a mix of much-loved Christmas songs with some traditiona­l carols starting at 7.30pm.

Wednesday, December 25 – Christmas communion starting at 9.30am.

Also an early heads up – the annual St Davids and Village Fete will be on Saturday, June 27, 2020. forget we have started a Sunday Carvery so why not call in for your Sunday lunch from 12 noon to 4pm every Sunday.

Nantymoel Boys & Girls Club: Why not go along to the new cafe at the club open every day for teas, coffees, food, cakes etc.

Also they have a book swap club where you can have a tea or coffee while picking your books.

Valley Ravens RFC: Mini & Junior rugby training is already underway for the coming 2019/20 season.

With high numbers in attendance at various age groups, if any child is interested in joining the Valley Ravens, training is every Wednesday, under 6s & 9s is at Ogmore Park, under 13s at the Planka Playing Fields. Both start time 6pm.

Coffee Morning: Coffee morning at Christchur­ch Chapel Corbett Street, Ogmore Vale on Thursday, January 30, with a cake stall, book stall, china and clothes stalls & not forgetting a raffle etc.

It will be from 9.30am10.45am. So why not join them for a coffee and its free admission as well.All welcome.

Blackmill Over-50s: Blackmill Over-50s meet at the Local Community Centre on Wednesday evenings at 7pm, always glad to welcome new members.

This is a social gathering and occasional­ly a trip to the theatre or a meal out is arranged.

Nantymoel Knitters:

We meet twice a week at Dinam Close every Tuesday and Friday from 10am-noon.

Smyrna Chapel Services: A traditiona­l Sunday school service in Smyrna Chapel, Penyfai, always starts at 10.30am and the evening services take place in Smyrna Chapel starting at 6pm.

There is a coffee morning every Tuesday in the Smyrna Chapel vestry from 10am-12noon where stalls of produce are also on offer.

Bible studies take place on Thursdays at 7.15pm and are led by Marlyn James and Dorothy Evans. Newcomers are always welcome.

The Newcastle Higher Community Councillor­s for Penyfai and Aberkenfig are now looking forward to Christmas and the Newcastle Higher Community Council

2019 Christmas Card Competitio­n, the schools who are taking part are the Penyfai Church in Wales School, St

Robert s Catholic School Aberkenfig, Tondu School and Three Nursery Schools, The Old School Nursery, Penyfai, The Scout Hall Nursery

Penyfai and The Welfare Hall Nursery Aberkenfig.

John Richfield by Friday, December 6 in readiness for the judging to take place on Monday, December 9 in St John’s Church Aberkenfig, the venue for next ordinary general meeting of the Newcastle Higher Community Council is the Penyfai Church in Wales School Hall, Tuesday, December 10 at 7pm.

Woodland Work Programme: The Community Woodland in Aberkenfig is looked after by the Newcastle Higher Community Council Woodland Maintenanc­e Committee, Cllr Alex Marshall reported that a written Tree Report has been received from the consultant Mr Stephen Lucocq, the report contained trees recommende­d to be removed for safety.

Penyfai Guide Group Guiding: Open to girls under the auspices of the Guide movement, meetings are held in the Scout and Guide Hall
