It’s the end of the road for Mercedes SLC roadster

- CHRIS RUSSON newsdesk@walesonline.co.uk

THE Mercedes-Benz SLC roadster has reached the end of the line and to mark the occasion three Final Edition models are being released.

The last versions of the two-seater – which began life as the SLK back in 1996 – will be on the road in the New Year with prices starting from £37,120 for an SLC 200.

Higher-performance AMG variants powered by 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine developing 390hp will be priced from £49,885 while SLC 300 versions which have a 245hp 2.0-litre turbo engine will cost from £40,916.

Both those have nine-speed auto boxes as standard, while the SLC 200, which generates 184hp from its 2.0-litre engine, has a six-speed manual transmission.

The special edition models sit on 18-inch alloys and come with sat nav, heated seats and the Mercedes Airscarf system among their standard features and the line-up will also feature a yellow paint finish reminiscent of the colour used for the launch of the original SLK.

The AMG SLC 43 also comes with a Harman Kardon sound system while for an additional £3,795 a Premium specification is available which includes a reversing camera, Comand Online infotainment system, a mirror package, panoramic roof, an LED Intelligent Light System and a wind deflector.

The car was renamed the SLC in 2016 and more than 700,000 versions of the retractable hard-top roadster – of which it was one of the first – have been sold in its lifespan.

Mercedes says the last models will be available in the spring of next year and no successor is planned at the moment.
