Please help us with tech survey

- Dai Williams, National Director, Diabetes UK Cymru

WE KNOW that diabetes technology, such as Flash glucose monitoring, continuous glucose monitoring and insulin pumps can greatly improve health and quality of life of people living with diabetes.

But too many people still don’t have access to the technology they need to best manage their condition.

Despite Flash being available on the NHS across Wales, in some areas the number of people being prescribed this technology is below 25%, whereas in other areas this figure is over 65%.

The clinical consensus guidelines originally agreed by the National

Service Advisory Group don’t disenfranchise anyone with diabetes from being prescribed Flash, whether they have Type 1, Type 2 or any other type of diabetes, as long as they meet the criteria.

Unfortunately, we know people with Type 2 diabetes aren’t getting Flash, and as a result are having to self-fund this technology.

People with and affected by diabetes have told us they want to see better access to diabetes technology. And we agree. But now we want to hear about your experiences.

Our survey at smartsurvey.co.uk/s/ diabetestech is now live, and is open until March 1. Whether your experiences have been positive or negative, whether you want to talk about yourself or about someone you care for, your views will help shape our work. With your help, we can ensure that everyone who could benefit from diabetes technology can access it.
