K-pop style for new Hyundai i20

- DAVID WHINYATES newsdesk@walesonline.co.uk

IT’S just a month to the year’s first major motor show in snowy Geneva – so it’s time to let the big tease begin.

A host of new models are expected to be launched – but their makers don’t want you to see them just yet.

They do, however, want to whet your appetite ahead of the big unveil, so over the coming weeks you can expect to see plenty of sexy-looking design sketches and darkened teaser images of their latest creations.

Among the first into the fray are Hyundai with design sketches of an all-new, completely redesigned i20 compact hatchback featuring a new design language which the company calls ‘Sensuous Sportiness’.

Bringing a touch of K-pop to the world of automotive styling, the South Korean maker says that its new design language brings ‘instinctive beauty to Hyundai vehicles, creating emotional value and giving them a distinctive look.’

The company’s PR blurb describes the new styling philosophy as being ‘characterised by the harmony between four fundamental elements: proportion, architecture, styling and technology.’

As can be seen from the design sketches this translates into a more sporty, angular and dynamic look with a full width grille, a new lighting signature and a bold character line running along the side of the body.

Inside, Hyundai says that the 2020 i20 will feature an ‘iconic’ dashboard which disguises the air vents and runs the width of the front fascia with a new digital instrument and infotainment cluster featuring two 10.25-inch screens.

We’ll bring you full details and real life, in-the-metal images of the new Hyundai i20 as soon as they become available.
