Do you want real change?

-

THE chance to access books, magazines and letters in a variety of formats can be a lifeline for people in Wales living with eye conditions.

However, only 10 per cent of all books published in the UK are available in accessible formats and many people cannot access the specialist texts they want to read, leaving 111,000 people in Wales unable to read what the rest of the population can.

Not being able to access reading material in the right format can present significant barriers to leading an independent, fulfilling life.

In extreme cases, it can lead to feelings of isolation and depression.

That’s why RNIB are on the lookout for volunteers who want to make a real change.

We recognise that reading is a fundamental right and provide a free personal transcription service for people with sight loss, giving more opportunity to read what they want in the format they need.

Our wonderful team of volunteers transcribe books into braille, large a and giant print, audio CD, Daisy CD or USB stick, and electronic text.

Could you be one of t them?

We offer a range of a activities to suit everyone. Recording text out loud for audio formats is fun for some, while editing a and proofreading excites o others.

There are no set hours – we value every minute our volunteers can offer.

We are committed to breaking down barriers for people with sight loss. V Volunteering for the RNIB Cardiff transcription service is a great way to learn about so many unexpected subjects, master new skills and enjoy a sense of purpose by taking on meaningful work that makes a difference to so many people across Wales.
