Guest Speaker: On Saturday, April 4, Pontycymer Rugby Club presents an evening of entertainm­ent, with former internatio­nal referee Dereck Bevan appearing as guest speaker. In addition to this, there will be laughter provided by top Welsh comedian Lenny Dee. Also included is a meal of curry and rice. Tickets are priced at £20. Doors open to the upstairs function suite at 7pm and all are welcome to come along. the group. Examples of this might include play equipment, IT equipment, stationery, phone and broadband connection­s or volunteer training.

Bridgend Festival Of

Light 2020: Don’t miss this free fun family event at Newbridge Fields on Friday, February 21 commencing 2.30pm. On the day all meet near Bridgend Athletic Club (the running track) Newbridge Fields from 2.30 for willow workshops, face painting and food stalls. Collect your lantern from 4.30 and then the Parade sets off at 5.15 sharp.

All children must be accompanie­d and don’t forget to wrap up warm and dry!

There will be a fire display by circus group Organised Kaos, vibrant music from the Samba band and a magical lantern lit parade around Newbridge Fields. The theme - Our Natural World.

Also, they have a book swap club where you can have a tea or coffee while picking your books to take home to read and after reading them take them back to swap for some more.

The ladies help out running this voluntary so please go along and support them and the club.

Valley Ravens New Coach: Congratula­tions to The Valley Ravens new under6s coach Ryan Terry, who recently passed with flying colours his Tag Rugby Leaders course, welcome aboard the Valley Ravens coaching set up Ryan.

Coffee Morning: Coffee morning at Christchur­ch Chapel, Corbett Street, Ogmore Vale, on Thursday, February 27 with a Cake Stall, Book Stall, China and Clothes Stalls & not forgetting a Raffle etc. It will be from 9.30am to 10.45am. So why not join them for a coffee and its free admission too. All welcome.

Blackmill Over-50s: Blackmill Over-50s meet at the Local Community Centre on Wednesday evenings at 7pm, always glad to welcome new members.

This is a social gathering and occasional­ly a trip to the theatre or a meal out is arranged.

Nantymoel Knitters: We meet at Dinam Close every Tuesday and

Friday from 10am-noon.

We are always looking for new members and all our efforts are to make things for charity.

If there is anyone who has any spare wool they do not want, we would be very grateful to receive it.

Smyrna Chapel Services:

A traditiona­l Sunday school service in Smyrna Chapel, Penyfai, always starts at 10.30am and the evening services take place in Smyrna Chapel starting at 6pm.

There is a coffee morning every Tuesday in the Smyrna Chapel vestry from 10am-noon where stalls of produce are also on offer.

Bible studies take place on Thursdays at 7.15pm and are led by Marlyn James and Dorothy

Evans. Newcomers are always welcome.

Community Council:

The Ordinary General meeting of the Newcastle Higher Community Council was held on Tuesday 11th February at 7pm in the Tondu Methodist Church Centre. A report on police matters in Penyfai and Aberkenfig has been requested by the community councillor­s for the reported crime figures in Penyfai Aberkenfig and Tondu, the request will also include a need for a traffic accident report to be given and inform the community councillor­s about the Tondu Bridge junction and access to the Pentre Felin houses and retail park joining the A4063 Maesteg

Road. Over many years the Newcastle Higher Community Councillor­s have given many reports in their community council meetings about the dangers to residents of Pentre Felin and to motorist. The clerk to the Newcastle Higher Community Councillor has written on their behalf to the Planning Department of Bridgend County Borough Council and pointed out the dangers with this access to the planners, councillor­s have witnessed accidents and near misses themselves at this accident black spot Tondu Bridge, Pentre Felin Houses and the Lidl Store joining the A4063 Maesteg Road, and the grid lock of the traffic that is happening everyday.
