Pupils show off Formula 1 skills

-

PENCOED Comprehensive School pupils have been showing off their Formula 1 skills.

Pupils have taken part in The F1 in Schools social enterprise project which provides a challenging educational experience for students and school children from across the country while raising awareness of STEM and Formula 1.

Teams must raise sponsorship and manage budgets to cover all costs including research, travel and accommodation. Pupils are inspired to use IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, and marketing.

Pencoed Comprehensive School’s F1 team, who are currently celebrating the success of their project Nemesis Inferno, held a demonstration event to showcase their design and to present their brand new ‘F1 in Schools’ track, kindly donated by Bridgend College.

Sponsors and partners of the project, along with many other guests including AM Huw Irranca-Davies were invited along to join the celebrations and to hear all about the project and its success.

Mr Irranca-Davies said: “It was a great pleasure to join the students and staff of Pencoed school in their celebrations and to see the great new F1 track donated by Bridgend College. The students and staff have clearly worked hard to see their Nemesis Inferno win at this stage of the competition and I wish them all the best for the future heats.

“It is also good to see the development of STEM skills in young women and a bonus to see them winning on the track and in their enterprise skills too.”
