With views across the popular Rest Bay, the Grade II listed mansion is now known as The Links and is being converted by Acorn Property Group.
Work began in 2016 to renovate the building and turn it into a collection of 35 homes comprising of studios and one, two and three-bedroom apartments.
Phase two is currently under way, which will see 34 new builds constructed behind the original building. It is due to be completed this year.
The Victorian building was left abandoned and dilapidated when it closed in 2013. When developers first took it on in 2017, to step inside was like travelling back in time.
But now there are already people living in the apartments built during the first phase.
Originally built to provide miners with the opportunity for a healthpromoting seaside break, the building became a hospital for wounded Allied soldiers from both world wars before being turned into a holiday hotel for older people.
It’s an exciting time for Rest Bay, with the new £1.5m watersports centre already up and running.
Work has continued on The Links during the coronavirus pandemic but has slowed due to social distancing measures.
Acorn Group has closed its show homes and marketing suites, but says interest is high for the remaining plots.
