AAC) 14:18 with Guy Smith (Swansea Harriers) third to complete the course in a time of 14:29.
Top female performance came from Clara Evans (Cardiff AAC) who clocked 16:04.
THE suspension of all athletics competitions until June 30 owing to coronavirus was last week announced by Welsh Athletics.
It came in the form of a statement from Welsh Athletics Interim Chief Executive James Williams.
He said: “It’s clear that competition providers needed clarity in order to plan ahead – hopefully an early decision in continuing to cease activities until June 30 will achieve this goal.
“We will continue to monitor the situation, and engage in dialogue with the membership.
“Further UK Government announcements are now awaited in relation to the lockdown.’’
Another government announcement is expected this week to update the situation regarding athletics activities.
However, the suspension until June 30 has placed the Healthspan Porthcawl 10K in jeopardy, as the second staging of the event is due to be held on July 5.
Last year’s inaugural staging attracted massive interest in Porthcawl, and it was due to do likewise in 2020.
Meanwhile, Welsh Athletics is supporting clubs via an ongoing weekly campaign to highlight the amazing work that’s being performed at grassroot levels during coronavirus.
They are focussing on a club every week to underline how they’ve adapted to change in the face of the crisis.
And as a gift to the members of registered clubs, they are offering exclusive access to DWFF which includes a 30% discount on all online purchases over £50. Once a club has registered, an online membership pack becomes available with details of how to access this valuable discount.
A DECISION was made late last month to delay this year’s Merthyrmawr Rabbit Run.
The 7.5K trail event was due to have been staged on June 20, but the organisers have now given it an alternative date of August 22.
Picture postcard Merthyrmawr first held the event in 2016, and the day also embraces a 2K Family Run along with a Toddler Dash for children together with entertainment.
The Rabbit Run has gained in popularity, and by last January it had already attracted 200 entrants.
Besides the stunning countryside, one of the main attractions of the trail is a trip down the Big Dipper - the biggest natural sand dune in Europe - along with a river crossing.
The event down the years has been dominated by two Bridgend runners – James Hunt, who is a member of Cardiff AAC, and Andrew Tuckey.
They have both carded two victories with Hunt taking the inaugural event of 2016 in a time of 53:50.
However, two years later, he really went through the gears and recorded a splendid 47:53.
Last year Tuckey (Bridgend AAC) took the event in 52:01, and will be hoping to defend the title in August.
