A SEMI-PROFESSIONAL Welsh footballer will be in the driving seat after winning a top sports car.

Thomas Walters, from Bridgend, was stunned after BOTB presenter Christian Williams rang to tell him that he had won a Toyota GT86 sports car worth £28,000.

The 23-year-old, who plays as a forward for Welsh League Cymru South side Goytre AFC, said: “I just couldn’t believe it.

“I was actually looking at buying a GT86 and now I’ve won one.”

Thomas has been on the injury list since last year after tearing the cartilage in his knee,

Thomas, who is currently working on the manufacturing line for a medical supplies company making Covid-19 tests, was delighted to win the online version of spot the ball.

He said he was looking forward to taking his car on a number of scenic routes close to his home.

“There are a lot of mountains and hills around where I live with some amazing views,” he said.

“There is one drive here called the Bwlch, it’s a famous route and one I’ll definitely be going on.”

BOTB presenter Christian surprises winners worldwide on a weekly basis but during the pandemic has had to do the surprises over video chat instead of heading to their doorsteps.

“The GT86 is a really nice car and Thomas is certainly going to be looking the part when he arrives at training in the future,” said Christian.

“It sounds like there are some great driving routes near to where Thomas lives and we hope he has a lot of fun in his new car.”

A bumper £32m of prizes have been given away by BOTB after being founded in 1999 by William Hindmarch.
