EXTRA LARGE QUEUES!
DRIVERS WAIT IN LINE AS CHAIN REOPENS:
IT SEEMS that if there’s one thing we love in Wales it’s a queue – and last week’s reopening of almost 40 McDonald’s drive-thru sites also proved that hundreds of us are desperate for a Big Mac.
The fast-food outlet reopened its hatches for service at locations throughout the country – including two of the branches in Bridgend, which were the first two to reopen in Wales. And there were massive queues.
There were also tailbacks of cars containing people desperate for a cheeseburger and fries in Treforest, Swansea and Merthyr Tydfil as staff worked in smaller teams while adhering to social distancing measures to be able to operate safely.
Staff members were also tasked with directing and chatting to burger-lovers as they waited in the queue and footage from Cyfarthfa Park in Merthyr Tydfil shows queues three-cars wide waiting for their turn at the ordering window – and the images from Swansea’s Morfa branch show it was a similar story there too.
McDonald’s restaurants across the UK are reopening with a limited menu and operating hours.
Fans of milkshakes and breakfasts will have to wait a little longer for those options to return and hours of operating are between 11am and 10pm.
Some of the safety measures include:
■ Social distancing introduced in the kitchens and service areas to help create a safe working environment for restaurant teams.
■ Perspex screens at drive-thru windows and employees wearing protective equipment, as well as Perspex screens and floor markings in specific areas in the restaurant and kitchen.
■ All employees will be asked to confirm they are fit and able to work and contactless thermometers will be used to take employee temperatures on arrival for every shift.
■ Ensuring delivery procedures with couriers are contactless for both employees and customers and there’s a spending cap of £25
