And an announcement on the new Porthcawl boss is expected this week.

“Improving the status of the club remains a top priority and with that in mind, we’ll be looking to further develop fine facilities at Lock’s Lane with an FAW Tier Three licence very much in mind,” he continued.

“We parted company with Barrie Jones on amicable terms – thanking him for splendid efforts over two years – and applications are now under being considered.

“And we’ve already raised funds to help the club going forward with a three-year sponsorship deal forming a solid base.”

Having won the South Wales Alliance Division One title in 2018/19, the Seasiders last season led the Premier Division for most of the time.

But when the FAW curtailed the season and final placings were decided on unweighted points-per-game, they only came third.

However, it was desperately close, as champions Pencoed Ath finished on 2.56 points, Cardiff Draconians had 2.33 and Porthcawl Town 2.32.

Though Porthcawl did originally apply for FAW Tier Three status in season 2020/21, given an everchanging scene, it was withdrawn.

Meanwhile, several football clubs, like Porthcawl Town, are already busy signing players even though there no plans in place to commence the 2020/21 season at grass-roots level.

Recent suggestions have indicated that the J D Cymru Premiership might get underway during September, but there’s a much gloomier scenario attached to FAW Tier Three downwards.

Some feel the best case scenario is October while more gloomy predictions revolve around no play before Christmas.

The Seasiders have, however, welcomed back free-scoring striker Jorge Crofts, who holds the club record for goals scored in a season, together with Carter Munro, Kris Shore and Ethan Waters.

However, the much-travelled duo of Joe Jones and Callum Jones have moved outside the Bridgend County boundary and gone to Afan Lido while Goytre Utd have re-signed two players with Bridgend links in exPenybont striker Josef Hopkins and former Betws and Caerau star Tom Walters.

But most transfers in easily goes to Port Talbot & District League side Kenfig Hill, who are looking to secure South Wales Alliance status.

Jon Tossell has taken over at the Croft Goch helm, and his plans will be fully revealed in next week’s Glamorgan Gazette via a “Looking Back” piece on the twice South Wales Amateur League champions.
