ATHLETICS
down through a series of virtual events.
Although members have been unable to meet, they remained connected with pride of place going to a Steps Challenge.
Runners were placed in teams and could then either walk or run various distances to provide a contest that embraced a leaderboard system in order to determine club bragging rights.
Another virtual challenge has seen competitors gain a points reward for walking or cycling along with a search for object of the week.
An example was a search in Bridgend and Cornelly for defibrillators that was seen as an excellent initiative, highlighting a community cause.
Anna Hurley displayed fine Microsoft organisational skills in organising both events while Vincent Lawlor has been collecting weekly virtual Parkrun performances.
And as the club has down the years been labelled social, they’ve even set up a virtual coffee and cake shop with members sharing conversations after runs, tucking in to cake with their cuppas.
However, Cornelly Striders are looking forward to the day when the Welsh Government eases restrictions, and they can resume group running sessions and get together on a social basis.
