FOLLOWING the announcement last Friday by the Welsh Government, allowing larger gatherings outdoors of up to 30 people, I Run Wales published a new set of guidelines for runners.

Under a document “Lifting Athletics out of Lockdown” that can be downloaded off the www.i.runwales website, they have highlighted rules that should be followed in order to provide all-round safety in the light of the threat still posed by coronavirus.

I Run Wales stressed that the running groups must be organised and supervised by a responsible person from a sports organisation.

With the return of running groups in Wales of up to a maximum of 30 participants, consideration might be given to smaller numbers in more groups.

This would then allow safer delivery of group running activities.

Changing facilities at any running organisation should be limited to the use of toilets while runners should be changed and ready to start.

The groups should then go off in 10-minute gaps with no sharing of equipment or the touching of anything along the route.

Runs away from busy areas should be planned in advance with consideration given to the avoidance of narseason in South Wales (there are also two corresponding divisions in North Wales) will have South-East and South-West divisions with 16 clubs in each.

But it led to the South Wales Alliance failing to produce a club, as over capacity in Tier Three resulted in runners-up Cardiff Draconians – who met criteria – also missing out on promotion.

However, Gwent County League champions Abertillery Excelsiors did make it into the South-East division along with Mid Wales imports in Llandrindod Wells and Rhayader Town. row paths and any pinch points.

The other 13 clubs are Aberbargoed Buds, Abergavenny Town, Abertillery Bluebirds, Caldicot Town, Chepstow Town, Croesyceiliog, Goytre (Mon), Monmouth Town, Newport City, Panteg, Treowen Stars, Tredegar Town and Trethomas Bluebirds.

The 16 South-West division clubs are AFC Llwydcoed, AFC Porth, Caerau Ely, Cwmamman Utd, Dinas Powys, Garden Village, Penrhiwceiber Rangers, Penydarren BGC, Pontardawe Town, Pontyclun, STM Sports, Ton Pentre, Treharris Ath, West End, Ynyshir Albion and Ynysygerwn. wash their hands or use sanitisers.

Shared lifts are another area to be avoided unless the runners are from the same household.

Meanwhile, earlier in the week the South Wales FA were due to meet remotely in order to settle on divisions from Tier Four downwards.

But, with Aberdare Town and Bridgend Street relegated to Tier Four and no-one having moved out of South Wales Alliance Premier Division, there is also over capacity at this level, and up to five clubs might get relegated.

However, last season’s Division Two champions Maesteg Park and third-placed Vale Utd are hoping to reach Tier Five level of the FAW Pyramid.
