Call-centre TV queen is back on our screens

PRESENTER Hayley Pearce is proud of her working-class roots.

The 30-year-old from Maesteg became a firm favourite on our TV screens as the tea lady on hit BBC series The Call Centre in 2013.

And since then she has taken part in lots of other TV projects while also working at a call centre in Swansea – something she spoke about last year, admitting that people are shocked when they find out she still has a normal job

Her second series of

Hayley Goes, which was filmed in September, allows her to explore issues that affect her generation today.

In one of the episodes, Hayley wants to know how easy it would be for her to move up a class.

She takes voice lessons to refine her accent and supercharges her table manners with an intense etiquette lesson.

During the lesson with coach William Hanson, he asks Hayley: “What is the normal greeting in Wales?”

Hayley replied: “What’s happening, butt? How’s it going, son?”

“Never do that again”, William said.

That episode in particular is one that Hayley says was one of her favourites to film.

“I love them all, but it’s got to be the upper class one where I met William and had etiquette lessons. Both of us are two completely different people, it was just so funny.

“I had never seen anything like this type of guy. He was completely upper class and posh but he had never seen anyone like me; we were both so intrigued with each other.

“I always learn so much from my shows,” she said.

Another challenge she faced was going celibate for one month, something which tested her relationship with her partner of two and a half years.

During the episode she reflects on what being intimate in a relationship means to her, and how not ‘getting any’ could put a big pause on the passion.

To help her understand her own sexual urges, she visits a psychologist to figure out what she could gain by giving up.

She said: “The celibacy one was hard. It wasn’t just me, it was my partner as well who had to go celibate.

“We had to give up halfway through and start again. It’s a challenge to find out if you have got something deeper with your partner other than just sex.

“It does test your relationship. I think everyone should try it because you realise whether your man has respect for you.”

Hayley says that the show puts her in situations where she is able to learn a lot about herself.

She added: “You never know what’s round .the corner. I’m not guaranteed to have another series next year, I’m blessed I’ve been able to make four on my own.

“The subjects relate to everyone.

“From the feedback everyone is saying it’s a funny series, but people have also had a cry.”

All episodes are currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer. The series started on Tuesday at 10.45pm on BBC One Wales.
