Help to give dogs a home
RESCUE centres have issued an appeal to the public in the hope of finding a “forever home” for their companions.
Dogs Trust in Bridgend works year-round to take in unwanted animals.
THERE are many rescue dogs in need of homes for 2021, so if you’re looking for a pooch then look no further.
Rescue centres across South Wales have issued an appeal to the public in the hope of finding a “forever home” for their companions.
Among them, Dogs Trust in Bridgend and Cardiff Dogs Home work year-round to take in unwanted animals that desperately need a new home.
The past year has been challenging for rescue centres that still have dogs they need to rehome, with restrictions meaning things are slightly different.
But these dogs still need a home and staff have issued a plea to make 2021 a happy one for some of the animals.
Here are just some of them, described in the words of the people who know them best.
Snow Cloud, aged six – Welsh collie
Snow Cloud is a cheeky lad with a playful personality and he is looking for a quiet rural home away from the hustle and bustle of busy roads and noise. He needs an adult-only home with minimal visitors.
He gets on well with other dogs and would love to live with another four-legged friend who can show him the ropes and help him settle into his new home.
His new home should have a large secure garden so he can enjoy off-lead play with his toys. He does have some ongoing issues with his legs, so his home will need minimal steps.
Snow Cloud is looking for patient owners who are prepared to work with the centre’s training team both prior to and post-adoption and, for this reason, Snow Cloud is looking for a home within an hour’s drive of the rehoming centre.

Fidget, aged four – terrier cross
Fidget has a zest for life and loads of energy so would suit a home who can keep up with his energy levels. Fidget will need to be the only pet in his new home as he loves all the attention, but he is improving with his doggy socialising skills while out and about, which will need to continue once he is settled into his new home.
Fidget will need lots of offlead exercise in a safe area – a large garden would be perfect where he can play to his heart’s content. He loves his toys and playing fetch is his favourite pastime.
Fidget is looking for an adult-only home where he is given time and space to settle into a new environment.
He is doing really well with his training programmes at the centre and his new owners will be supported by his training team both prior to, during and after adoption.
For this reason Fidget would need to be rehomed within a 45-minute drive of the rehoming centre.

Frankie, aged eight – cocker spaniel
Despite his age, Frankie has plenty of energy and loves nothing more than going for long walks. He’s a busy boy so will need owners who can keep his brain engaged and give him lots of things to do to prevent him getting bored.
He is sociable with dogs and could live with another dog in his new home. Frankie can be worried by loud noises so would be better suited living in a quiet rural area.
He will need an adult-only home with a maximum of two adults. He gets very anxious travelling in the car, so will need to live locally to the centre.
Frankie does value certain items highly and has the tendency to not want to give them back.
He is looking for experienced owners who can work with him and manage this carefully in the home.

Pie, aged two – border collie
Pie is searching for an owner who is up for a challenge and is willing to help her become more relaxed in a home environment.
It will be a gradual process for Pie, who takes her time getting to know new people. Her new owners will need to be patient and committed to her training.
Pie is looking for an adultonly home with minimal visitors, preferably in a rural environment with a garden where she can enjoy off-lead exercise without being startled by other animals or people.
Once she knows you, she loves nothing more than a game of tug or fetch. She will need to be the only pet in the home, but she would benefit from walking alongside a calm, quiet dog at a distance to build up her socialising, something which her new owners will be supported with by her training team prior to and post-adoption.

Lilly, aged three – lurcher
She would thrive in a home where she is the only pet. Lilly might be suitable to live with children aged 12+. Lilly is quite quiet when you first meet her but shows her wild side when she is comfortable with you.
She absolutely loves to play and is looking for an active home.

Lyra, aged two – lurcher
She’s a very sensitive girl and is a little bit scared of everything at the moment. Lyra hasn’t been taught very many manners and can be quite insecure when meeting new people.
She needs to live in an adult-only home with no visiting children. She would benefit greatly from training classes so she can learn how the world works and how to relax.

Iggi, aged five – lurcher
Iggi had been in boarding kennels prior to coming to the centre so is looking forward to having her home comforts again.
Due to this, she is a little bit overweight and she would certainly benefit from improving her fitness. Iggi cannot live with cats or small furries, as she doesn’t get on with them. We would do introductions with children of any age, as she has previously been around children.
Iggi is on long-term urinary medication which would need to be continued in her new home.
