Dunes are on doorstep for home’s lucky new owner

- JOANNE RIDOUT joanne.ridout@walesonline.co.uk

SO MANY people daydream about living somewhere near enough to a beach that they can easily walk with the bucket, spade, deck chair and surfboard and hopefully be on the sea shore within a few minutes.

But imagine your house being so close to the beach that you are surrounded by undulating sand dunes.

Nature’s coastal gold dust is literally on your doorstep; both front and back doorsteps.

At the end of this quiet suburban close on the coast near Newton, Porthcawl, this detached four bed modern home arguably has the prime position for sea views and jumping over the garden fence into the soft dunes on the other side.

Once a few sand dune summits have been conquered, a sweeping golden bay and Newton Beach waits to greet you.

When the tide is out the sandy beach stretches for almost three miles and reveals a network of rock pools to discover.

If you should ever want to stroll in the opposite direction to the dunes, the centre of the picturesque village of Newton is near.

The village dates back to the 12th century where the local church is said to have been founded by the Knights of the Order of St John of Jerusalem more than 800 years ago.

The popular pub The

Jolly Sailor also claims to be the oldest drinking establishment in the area.

When you arrive back from the pub, this lovely house happily greets you.

The exterior of the house is an attractive mix of two shades of brick and a feature tile bay window facade.

There is also brick detailing around the windows and painted a pale yellowy cream which is surely paying homage to the tones of the glimpses of sand within the dunes surrounding the property.

In the garden the owners have constructed a home office and studio.

However, with the garden gate right next to the little bonus building, it is unclear how much work can actually get done in here with the mesmerising temptation right outside.

Inside the modern house there are four bedrooms and a family bathroom to discover upstairs.

The master has an ensuite shower room and all the bedrooms have either a full sea and sand dune view or at the very least a partial sandy landscape to enjoy.

On the ground floor a spacious lounge flows into the dining room through connecting double doors.

This dining space then flows out into a conservatory that immerses itself in the garden.

The choice of connecting all three of these spaces means that the front and the rear outside spaces of the property can be seen wherever you stand, in whichever room you are in.

The kitchen is a contemporary and stylish room that subtly and tastefully connects the space to the home’s wonderful location via interior design choices.

The gloss white units and chrome handles bring the contemporary touches but the floor is reminiscent of a weathered boardwalk, and almost sun-bleached wood grain design of the composite work surfaces add the coastal flavour.

Add in a dark, stormy blue hob splashback and crockery on display as well as a coastal inspired light fitting and the sea is not far away from this room in regards to design as well as literally over the garden wall.

And if anyone should forget exactly where this house is located and how special that location actually is, there’s a handy sign above the back door that points to the beach.
