-

Another 16 people have died with coronavirus in Wales and more than 1,300 new cases have been reported.

Latest figures from Public Health Wales published on Tuesday show 1,332 new cases of the virus have been recorded to bring the total since the pandemic began to 172,879.

The overall death total now stands at 3,997 in Wales.

Following the latest figures, the Wales infection rate is now 403.5 cases per 100,000 people based on the seven days up to January 7. That is down on the 415 previously reported.

PHW data also shows 91,239 people have now received a first dose of the coronavirus vaccine as at 10pm on Monday, January 11. That is 5,200 more than the 86,039 recorded 24 hours earlier.

There are 97 people who have received both of their vaccine jabs.

The percentage of tests producing positive results in the week to January 7 is now 20.6%, a fall on the 30% positivity recorded over the Christmas period. Locally, the areas with the highest positivity are Wrexham with 29.7%, Bridgend with 28.1% and Flintshire with 25.9%.

These figures are based on the date tests were done, not the date test results were included on the system. The data is correct up to 9am on January 11.

Wrexham remains the local authority with the highest infection rate in Wales with a seven- day rate of 853.2 cases per 100,000 population, a rise from 851.7 on Monday.

Flintshire has risen through the ranks and has the second-highest rate with 682.3 cases per 100,000, down from 707.2 the day before.

Bridgend is third with 649.3 per 100,000 population, down from 695.7.
