FILMS TO BE BURIED WITH
THIS rather gruesome-sounding podcast is actually mostly anything but. Host Brett Goldstein gently breaks the news to his guest that they have at some point died before they answer a series of questions about films with poignant connections to their lives.
Firstly, each one has to say how they died – Catastrophe star Rob Delaney decides he was squashed by a falling air conditioning unit, while The Good Place’s Jameela Jamil gorged herself to death on ice cream.
Comedian Goldstein is a warm, witty interviewer who is clearly revelling in finding out juicy bits of gossip from his subjects’ pre-fame lives as much as he enjoys the geeky film chat.
Be prepared to hit pause if they start discussing a movie you haven’t seen yet because it’s understandably spoiler-packed. Where to start: Sarah Millican confesses her fear of locking small children in cupboards and reveals what it’s like to take a year off that coincided with a pandemic.

SNAP JUDGEMENT
REAL life stories are given a soundtrack of ‘killer beats’, elevating them to a higher level that takes you right into the experience of the storyteller.
There’s an aunt trying to understand dating apps, a theatre professor trying to stage a controversial play, and a grandson living with the weight of being a black man in a country where the colour of your skin makes you a target.
There are spin-off Spooked episodes too. Cat Bone Curse is about a mean, dead uncle whose bones were unearthed by two kids with apparently supernatural consequences. Where to start: In The Crossroad a doctor tells of when he stopped by the side of the road to help a boy in distress. It’s a powerful true story about choice and the impact even unconscious decisions can have on others and yourself.

With celebrity-led podcasts getting most coverage these days, it’s great to see the smaller shows getting the platform they deserve.
