Primary school is celebrating after being presented with Platinum Green Flag Award
CEFN Cribwr Primary School is celebrating after being presented with the Eco Schools Platinum Green Flag Award.
The primary school in Cefn Cribwr, Bridgend has been working hard since 2012 to reduce energy consumption and boost its ecocredentials. This has included litter picks in the local community as part of the Love It, Don’t Trash It! Campaign in conjunction with Bridgend County Borough Council, Keep Wales Tidy, SeaQuest and Cefn Cribwr Community Council.
The school have planted fruit trees and wildflowers around the grounds to encourage bees and there is a bike/scooter parking area with staff and youngsters encouraged to walk or cycle to and from school.
Schools achieve platinum status once they have been awarded a Green Flag four times, demonstrating a longterm commitment to environmental education, student involvement and sustainability.

Howells said: “This award is a reflection of the hard work of our Eco Council, pupils and staff in caring for the environment in and around our school.
“The Eco Council has introduced a number of measures including reusable water bottles to reduce plastic waste, as well as recycling paper, plastic and batteries and turning off lights in rooms that are not being used. We have also worked with Dwr Cymru to look at ways we can reduce water consumption, and continue to monitor our energy use.
“Well done to the committee for presenting their work to Keep Wales Tidy as part of the accreditation process - we’re very proud to fly the platinum flag.”
Cllr Charles Smith, cabinet member for education and regeneration, said: “Congratulations to Cefn Cribwr Primary School on this prestigious green award, the result of many years of hard work by the Eco Committee, pupils and staff.
“We are extremely proud of our schools who work tirelessly to make a positive impact on the environment and improve their green credentials.”
