● Happy Birthday: Many happy returns for July 2 to Marjorie Thomas (widow of Malcolm Thomas/Director of Environmental Health and Planning BCBC).

Marjorie, a lovely lady, now resides at Sydenham House, Blakeney and all friends in Bridgend send their

Best Wishes and kind thoughts.

● Laleston Gardening Club: The Gardening Club has been a hive of activity on Saturday mornings.

Committee members have been engaged in laying the foundations for our new greenhouse, entertaining a small socially distanced group of members each week for a coffee morning, tending and caring for the garden and running the Club Shop.

While tackling the renovation of the wall at the far end of the hall, members were very excited to reveal a lovely old fire place when removing decorative boards.

This feature will be kept and restored as it is a part of the history of Cliff Cottage.

In September it will not be possible to hold the club’s Annual Show as is usual because of the uncertainty of Covid restrictions.

The committee have decided it is not sensible to take the chance of so much hard work and organisation becoming a wasted effort if cancellation becomes the requirement. Instead it has been decided to hold a flower and vegetable festival.

Members are requested to grow exhibits in pots, etc, so they can be loaned to display on the day.

It wil not be a competition just a display to demonstrate what Gardening Club members can achieve.

If Covid rules do indeed ease by September other stalls will be included and possibly refreshments, but watch this space for further announcements and developments nearer to the date which will be Saturday, September 4.

Please start nurturing your blooms and veggies and make it a bumper display!

Sue Ford, chair of Laleston Gardening Club has kindly submitted the aforementioned update as the club’s secretary, Patrick Stevens has been suffering ill health although it is good to hear he is now recovering.

Best Wishes for a very Speedy Recovery Patrick!

Lady Litter Picker: Congratulations to a lovely lady namely Dot Williams, of Oaklands, who is making a huge effort to clean up after all those irresponsible people who drop their litter around the vicinity.

Dot has been seen in the Broadlands area, Heol y Bardd, and all around with her litter picker and bag doing a great job for the environment.

Well Done Dot !

Lions Charity Book Sale: Calling all avid readers: pop into the Bridgend indoor market on Saturdays throughout July and pick up some great bargains for the holiday season.

The stall is manned by members of Bridgend Lions from 10am-3pm and it’s good news that the Market Cafe is now open with lots of interesting and useful stalls to browse.

Need a haircut, material or clothes altered, cake decorations, a watch fixed, wholesome meat, fruit and veg, great snacks, lovely jewellery, special art work, beautiful children’s wear, taste of Thailand, music, phones, pet food and more?

It is all there and your support will certainly be welcome by all.
