MS Altaf Hussain welcomes the reopening of post office services in Aberkenfig

-

THE reopening of post office services in Aberkenfig after a gap of four years has been welcomed by Regional MS Altaf Hussain,

Welsh Conservative Dr Hussain was the first person to visit the new counter at Aberkenfig Library on Monday morning. The service is being provided by Brynmenyn postmaster Peter Kwok Wong and his wife Rachel.

Mr Hussain said: “It’s great news to see a post office service in Aberkenfig again

“It was a great loss when the post office that was located in one of the village shops was lost.

“Before that, the village had its own stand-alone post office for decades.

“I live In Penyfai and we have also lost our post office there. So I would urge residents of both communities to support this new service if they can.

“The Post Office will be keeping a check on footfall so if we want the opening hours expanded we have to show that it is needed and that it is well used.”

The Post Office is available on Mondays from 11am to 1pm but this will be reviewed as time goes on.

Dean Tuck, who is the supervisor of Aberkenfig Library, said that having the post office there on a Monday would attract people to the library who perhaps did not usually visit the building.

He said: “The library is at the heart of the community so it’s nice that we are able to provide a home for the post office at the moment.”

Mr Wong, who has been running Brynmenyn Post Office for seven years, also provides a service at Coytrahen for villagers.

He said people in local communities were very friendly and he was pleased to be able to serve residents of Aberkenfig especially as some had been coming to the office in Brynmenyn and so were known to him and his wife.
