Llwydcoed celebrating 110 years with special concert

-

LLWYDCOED Brass Band celebrate their 110 years anniversary this year with a celebration concert at St Elvan’s Church, Aberdare (CF44 ODY) on Saturday, June 25.

A spokesperson for the band said: “We’re pleased to have the internationally renowned , award winning guest soloist, Kirsty Abbotts, join us, along with both Llwydcoed Junior Band and the Aberdare CiW Primary School Choir, all to be compered by the widely known David Hayward.”

Doors open at 6.30pm and the concert starts at 7.15pm Tickets cost £8 on the door or by contacting 0333 666 4466. Doors open at 6.30pm.

Llwydcoed was originally formed when the young men, mostly from the village football team the ‘Llwydcoed Robins’ decided that there must be more to life than just football, chapel and beer!

After hearing the Ysgubowren Brass Band, also known as the Aberdare Town Band, performing at one of the football matches, the seeds were sown and it was decided to try to start the Llwydcoed Band.

From these early days the band has gone from strength to strength.

They have climbed from the Fourth Section up to its present Championship Band status.

Obviously, this certainly did not happen over night and there have been years of hard work in tutoring young players to reach the higher standards of musicianship as they progressed through the Third Section, Second Section and First Section to finally reach the pinnacle of representing Wales in this Championship Section at the National Brass Bands Finals in 2021 along with the City of Cardiff M1 Band, Tredegar Town Band and the World Number One ranked band, Cory Band.

The band has been very successfully led by their musical director, Christopher Turner.
