BRIDGEND snatched a dramatic victory as full-back Cai Evans landed a penalty with the final kick of the game, writes Huw S Thomas.

Evans – son of Ieuan – landed three conversion­s and three penalties, a haul that enabled the Ravens to finish the season on a high and move up to ninth in the table with three successive wins.

Llandovery were their own worst enemies, trying to force passes and over-complicate attacks. Bridgend were more direct and crisper.

The visitors took the lead with an intercepti­on try from wing Dewi Cross, converted by Evans.

Llandovery kept attacking, but their support work and finishing let them down at crucial moments. The Ravens were more precise and accurate in their build-ups and when centre Joe Gatt broke through, Nathan Edwards was on hand to go in under the posts.

Evans converted and soon added a penalty to make it 17-0.

The Drovers finally got on the scoreboard when hooker Craig Thomas went over, with Kristian Jones adding the conversion.

Llandovery they got their second try through Jones, and fine work by full-back Tomi Lewis brought the scores level.

The conversion from Jones gave the hosts the lead, but Bridgend regained it with a 40-metre penalty by Evans.

Drovers replacemen­t Will Thomas then crossed for a try, only for wing Edd Howley to go over for the visitors, with Evans converting for a 27-26 lead.

Jones kicked a late penalty, but Evans stepped up to calmly slot the winning penalty from 40 metres.
