From boosting your wellbeing to helping improve fine motor skills, there are so many benefits to be found in crafting

MARCH is National Craft Month and Hobbycraft wants to inspire us all to be more creative.

The arts and crafts retailer is sharing new craft products on its daily socials, offering helpful ‘how-to’ guides on its ideas hub, and setting up workshops with expert guides.

From cheap and easy crafts for kids, to a basketful of projects for spring and Easter, there are loads of suggestions to keep young (and old) members of the family busy – and while they might kick-start a new hobby, they’ll definitely do their bit to support mental wellbeing, and more.

Katherine Paterson, from Hobbycraft, says: “Crafting is extremely important for kids because it provides a wealth of benefits for them, both in the short and long term.

“Crafting offers children a chance to learn and grow in a fun and creative environment, as well as explore and express their emotions through arts and crafts with friends and family.”

She adds: “The process of crafting helps to develop fine motor skills by working muscles in the brain and controlling movements in areas such as the hands.

“Especially for younger children, the act of grabbing a crayon or paint brush develops the muscles that will later help button their coat, tie their shoes, write, and more.”

With Mother’s Day on March 19, why not try and make this simple flower wreath card…

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

Tissue paper squares; felt-tip pens; glue and pastel-coloured card.

METHOD

1. Fold your card in half, then turn it landscape and draw a circle in the centre. Inside the circle, write ‘Happy Mother’s Day’.

2. Cut your tissue into quarters to form multiple smaller squares, take two or three different colour squares and layer them in a pile.

3. To create your flower, take your tissue paper and pinch from the middle to form a bunch. Twist and pinch until a stem forms and make several flowers, then glue them on the circle to

form a wreath.
