Tribute to charity champion Alastair
A STORE director who looks after shops across the west of Scotland raised £1,200 in memory of a 44-year-old colleague who died suddenly.
Paul McCarter was part of a team of store directors from Tesco who came together to remember Alastair Brown by walking Hadrian’s Wall.
Alastair was the selfappointed charity champion and died in March following a heart attack. Workers in stores across the region also raised £6,500 by completing the same distance on treadmills in store and hosting a series of fundraising activities.
The group walked the wall together to raise money for the National Charity Partnership between Diabetes UK, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Tesco.
Paul said: “When I found out about this challenge I wanted to be involved.
“Relatives have suffered heart attacks so I’m particularly driven to raise funds for Diabetes UK and the BHF as I know all too well the impact these devastating conditions can have on people’s lives.
“I am very proud of the way all of our colleagues have pulled together to raise money in honour of our dear friend and colleague.”
Stores taking part included Ayr, Barrhead, Cumbernauld, Milngavie, Greenock, Port Glasgow, Irvine, Kirkintilloch, Renfrew, Saltcoats, Linwood, Paisley, Kilbirnie, Rutherglen, Burnside, Glasgow St Rollox, Shettleston, Knightswood, Silverburn, Maryhill and Parkhead Forge.
