Hi-tech hope in fresh bid to find Caroline’s killer
POLICE are re-examining the unsolved murder of a teenager 20 years ago in the hope that modern technology can help find the killer.
Officers will take a fresh look at the case of Caroline Glachan, who was attacked on August 26, 1996 on the banks of the River Leven in Bonhill, Dunbartonshire late at night and left half submerged in the freezing water to die.
The 14-year-old was killed while taking a shortcut to meet her 18-yearold boyfriend who lived in the neighbouring town of Renton.
Despite numerous police appeals for information over the past two decades, no one has been charged with her murder.
Detective Superintendent Jim Kerr said: “The murder of Caroline Glachan remains an important investigation for Police Scotland.
“Caroline’s murder in 1996 is periodically assessed by the Homicide Governance and Review as an unresolved murder case.
“Given that it is almost 20 years since Caroline’s death, the team will again be reviewing the case.
“As always, we would welcome any new information that could assist this investigation.
“I would urge anyone with information on Caroline’s murder to contact us on 101. Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
Police Scotland’s cold case investigation team Homicide Governance and Review – HGR – apply new technology to old cases.
The Donal MacIntyre: Unsolved TV programme also previously shone a light on the case.
MacIntyre said on the show there is “a code of silence in the community which is preventing the truth from being told”.
