Social worker in attackonwoman
A FORMER council worker who assaulted a woman and failed to disclose his convictions has been reprimanded by social work bosses.
Kenneth McCracken, who worked as a Children’s Rights Officer with Glasgow City Council, was convicted of assault last June at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
The previous month he was also convicted for breaching bail conditions at Hamilton Sheriff Court and given a fine.
Mr McCracken, who had been a social worker for six years, was given a community payback order and was told he must not go near the woman he assaulted when he was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court in July 2016.
He has been given a two-year warning on his record after failing to tell the Scottish Social Services Council about his fixed penalty.
The social worker, who is no longer employed by the council, told authorities he regretted his behaviour and was “ashamed” of what he had done.
At a hearing, social services bosses decided his ability to carry out his job was impaired due and he had shown “a disregard for the law”. He was told: “The conviction for assault represents a loss of self control and aggressive and violent behaviour.
“You are entr usted with responsibility for the most vulnerable members of society, however have committed a crime of violence and therefore not upheld the standards of conduct and behaviour expected of a registered worker.
“This behaviour damages the reputation of the profession.”
The social worker, who has never appeared before the SSSC before, was given a warning on his record for two years which took effect from February 2.
