Blair force ready to launch Accies on cup run

- By STUART McDONALD

HAMILTON new boy Blair Adams is still getting to know the Scottish football scene as he prepares for today’s Scottish Cup fifth-round tie at Dunfermline.

The 25-year-old defender signed for Accies on an 18-month deal from Cambridge in the January transfer window.

And after coming on as a substitute in the 3-0 Ladbrokes Premiership win over Inverness at the SuperSeal Stadium he played 90 minutes in the 1-1 home draw against Kilmarnock at the weekend.

Adams, a graduate of Sunderland’s academy, is looking forward to his first cup adventure north of the border but admits he is still getting used to his surroundings.

He said: “I can’t say I know much about Dunfermline. I am just sort of getting to grips with the league. But we won’t be taking them lightly because they are in the Championship here.

“It is my first taste of the Scottish Cup and I am looking forward to it. Everyone wants to have a good cup run. It is a good opportunity to progress into the quarter-finals so we are looking forward to it.”

One person Adams does know well in Scotland is Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn, also from South Shields, and he looked forward to renewing their schoolboy friendship as he sets his sights on getting a regular game of football.

The former Coventry and Notts County player said: “Waggy is from the same area as me so we played in the same team as kids.

“I will be looking forward to coming up against him. I was just keen to move from Cambridge for regular football.

“It is the top division with some big teams in the league and it appealed to me. It is good to experience a different league but the main thing was regular football and I have the opportunity to do that if my performances are good.”
