WEIGH TO GO

Celtic kid Lindsay planning Ton of trouble for blues

- EXCLUSIVE by GRAEME McGARRY

ON-LOAN Celtic midfielder Jamie Lindsay knows his mates back at Lennoxtown will be cheering him to dump Rangers out of the Scottish Cup tomorrow, but he insists he wants to do it solely for Morton.

Lindsay has been a standout performer for Jim Duffy’s men as they have blazed a trail to one semi-final already this season as well as third place in the Championship table.

Now his focus is on making sure that it is Morton’s name that is in the draw for the Scottish Cup quarter-finals on Sunday evening, with the plaudits of his pals at Celtic a secondary consideration.

“Obviously, it would be massive to score against Rangers or put them out because I’m a Celtic player, but I can’t look at it like that,” Lindsay said.

“I’m playing with Morton and it is Morton versus Rangers, so I’ll be going there and trying to get the win for Morton.

“I haven’t had any of the boys on to me from Celtic yet. When I was at Dumbarton last season they weren’t full-time, so I was still in at Lennoxtown and the boys would say one or two things then before we played against Rangers.

“I’ve not been up at Lennoxtown in a few weeks, but I’m sure they will be wanting me to do well and I’ll probably get one or two messages before Sunday.

“I was glad Morton got Rangers rather than Celtic because I wouldn’t have been able to play, so hopefully I’ll be able to help us perform to our best.”

Another polished performance to help Morton to a surprise win over Rangers would be a fitting way for Lindsay to show his gratitude for the opportunity that Jim Duffy has given him in Greenock.

THE by-product of those impressive showings for the Cappielow side has been the piquing of the interest of Celtic’s head of youth, Chris McCart, and even the Celtic manager.

“I’ve spoken to Brendan Rodgers a few times and had a couple of meetings, and I’ve spoken to Chris McCart, and they are both really happy with me,” he said.

“The manager was just telling me that he wanted me to continue to play games and get experience and I’ve done that. I’ve played most of the games so hopefully I can go back there with 30-odd games under my belt.

“I’ve been given a chance here and I’ve taken it and done well, so it’s been great and I appreciate what Jim Duffy is doing for me.”

Rangers may be going through something of a wobble at the moment, and while Lindsay knows that the fraught atmosphere around Ibrox may help their cause, he is focusing on what Morton can bring to the party.

“There’s no pressure on Morton,” he said. “No one expects us to win. Rangers will probably be feeling a bit nervy, but that’s their problem. We just need to look at ourselves really.

“Whatever is happening at Rangers is their business, it’s not really about them for us. We need to look at what we’re going to do, and on the day if we turn up and play well then you never know.”
