Rodgers heaps praise on wingers

- By GRAEME McGARRY

BRENDAN Rodgers has praised his wing kings after a devastating display against Inverness at the weekend.

Scott Sinclair and James Forrest had a field day against the beleaguered visiting full-backs, with the only criticism from their manager that they failed to score themselves.

“I thought the two wingers were outstanding,” Rodgers said.

“Scotty Sinclair will be devastated that he hasn’t scored. You saw with the example at the end how robust he is. He challenges the boy [David] Raven who bounces off him, and he still has the power and strength to land, go again and square it so that we get a goal.

“Both him and James were brilliant and both will be disappointed not to score, but they both made real big contributions.”

Rodgers was also delighted with the contribution of hat-trick hero Moussa Dembele, but it wasn’t only the striker’s goals that pleased him.

“Moussa will get goals,” the manager said. “But I’m pleased for him that the other elements of his game that we work on in training are improving. How he receives it, his touch to move away into space is getting better.

“He’s a big talent, the boy, but he still has a lot of improvement left in him. But you can see that he is enjoying his football.

“He’s a real reference point for the team. His hold-up play is very good, his movement is improving all the time and he works very hard on his finishing.

“But it was very much a team effort. They know where they are going, where to press, and when we have the ball everyone is available.

“All across the board we were brilliant. It was a very good team performance and I feel we will get better as the season goes on.”
