- By STACEY MULLEN Crime Reporter

POLICE have launched a murder inquiry following the death of a 20-year-old man in North Glasgow.

The murder probe has officially been started after a post mortem examination confirmed that Steven Russell’s death is suspicious.

He was found seriously injured outside a house on Bardowie Street at around 3.45pm on Friday, February 10.

Known as Steph, the Possilpark man, from Closeburn Street, was rushed by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary but he died of his wounds later that day.

Top murder cop Detective Inspector Martin Fergus, from the Major Investigation Team, made a plea to the public in a bid to gather more information surrounding the death.

Specialist forensic teams have been active around Possil, and detectives and officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries to deter- mine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Additional officers have also been patrolling the area to reassure the public.

DI Martin Fergus said: “Following a post mortem examination, we are treating the death of Steven Russell as murder and have launched a murder inquiry.

“The investigation is continuing today into the circumstances surrounding his death and I would urge anyone with information that may assist our investigation to contact the Incident Room at Govan Police Station on 101.

“Alternatively CRIMESTOPPERS can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”

Meanwhile, floral tributes remain at the scene for the popular young man. One card on a bouquet read: “Still doesn’t feel like you’re gone, brother.

“God only takes the best. Miss you. From your bro’s Caitlin and Marc. Fly high angel.”

Another read: “You were and are the most kind hearted, genuine guy you could ever meet.

“Forever in my heart mate. Steve and Rollo.”

A Go Fund Me page has also been set up with the aim of raising £1000 for funeral costs.

Wellwishers have already donated to the page in their hundreds so far and left messages of support.

A message on the Go Fund Me page reads: “Together we are raising money for our boy Steph to get him the send off he deserves.

“Most loyal person ever and would do anything for anyone.”

His heartbroken girlfriend Morgan Barr also changed her profile picture on the social media website Facebook to a snap of her with Steven.
