Tav: True blue grit got us over the line

- By CHRIS JACK

GRAEME MURTY hopes the Ibrox squad can take inspiration from veterans Kenny Miller and Clint Hill as they look to move on after Mark Warburton’s departure.

The Auchenhowie Under-20 boss led the Light Blues to victory over Morton on Sunday just hours after Warburton, David Weir and Frank McParland left the club.

Miller played an integral part at Ibrox as he cancelled out Michael Tidser’s opener for the Ton and put in another tireless shift at the head of the Gers attack.

At the other end, Hill was solid once again as he helped Murty’s side avoid a shock fifth round exit to their Championship visitors.

And the stand-in boss was delighted to see his two most experienced performers leading the way after a rollercoaster 48 hours for Rangers.

Murty said: “He (Miller) has been fantastic all year.

“He comes in and JAMES TAVERNIER reckons Rangers showed their mental resolve as they came from behind to beat Morton on Sunday.

Under-20 boss Graeme Murty took charge of the Light Blues for the Scottish Cup clash following the departure of Mark Warburton and David Weir on Friday night.

Michael Tidser stunned the home crowd as he fired Jim Duffy’s side into a sixth minute lead but Rangers responded to clinch a 2-1 win.

Kenny Miller pulled the Gers level after 12 minutes before Martyn Waghorn scored on the hour mark as Murty’s side avoided a shock defeat on home soil.

And right-back Tavernier was pleased to emerge unscathed from the Ton test as attentions turn to the Premiership trip to Dundee on Sunday.

He said: “That was the main thing.

To get a victory and just get over the line and move onto the next round.

“What has gone on has gone on. We just had to win.

“It has been a difficult stage. It is always a difficult stage when you lose your manager and your coach.

“It is one of those things in football where you have just got to get on with it.

“The boys have got to pick themselves up.

“We go to Dundee next week and we need another three points there. It was important that we got the win [on Sunday].

“We went 1-0 down and it was a tense time with the fans. You can appreciate that.

“The goal from Kenny was a good goal and it relieved a lot of pressure from us.

“The character to get back into the game so quickly was good to see.

“The lads are all experienced and you have got the older lads who have got massive experience.

“We are all trying to stick together and do the best we can.”
