Huntafterwomanraped in path close to school
A RAPIST who attacked a woman close to a primary school is being hunted by police.
The 27-year-old woman was walking along footpath between Byres Road and Glenmalloch Place in Elderslie when she was subject to the brutal attack.
She fell over after the man hit her, and subsequently raped her, around 8pm on Monday, January 20.
The horrific incident happened on the footpath close to Wallace Primary school – an area popular with dog walkers.
The attacker has been described as between 35-50, with dark coloured hair which was receding on top.
He had a medium to stocky build, looked clean shaven and was wearing dark coloured bottoms with a light coloured T-shirt.
Police have been reviewing CCTV footage and have been scuring the local area in an attempt to track down the culprit.
They have also been going door to door and speaking to locals, in the hope of finding more information.
Detective Inspector Harvie has now appealed for residents to get in touch.
She said: “This area is well used by local people as a shortcut to nearby shops on Main Street, it is also a popular spot for dog walkers.
“I am appealing to anyone who may have been in or near to the area yesterday evening, perhaps you saw someone acting a little suspiciously, maybe you saw someone running off, any piece of informa- tion could assist our inquiries and I would urge you to contact us.”
“This incident will no doubt be of concern to local residents, however I would like to reassure them that additional officers are patrolling the area and anyone with any concerns should have no hesitation in speaking to them.”
