Well boss McGhee hit with SFA notice after Pittodrie

- By SCOTT MULLEN

MOTHERWELL boss Mark McGhee has been hit with two SFA charges in the aftermath of his side’s 7-2 Ladbrokes Premiership defeat to Aberdeen.

McGhee described the behaviour of fourth official John McKendrick as ‘diobolical’ and ‘disgusting’ during the game at Pittodrie last Wednesday, an exchange that eventually saw the Well gaffer sent to the stand by referee Alan Muir midway through the second half.

In the immediate aftermath of the game, he even stated he’d be contacting his lawyer over the conduct of the official.

However, it emerged yesterday that the SFA have issued a notice of complaint against McGhee, alleging that he breached Disciplinary Rule 203 buy using offensive language and/or adopting aggressive behaviour towards a match official.

A hearing date has been set for Thursday, March 16, while the 59-year-old has has until next Tuesday to respond to the complaint.

Speaking in yesterday’s SportTimes, McGhee said: “I’m not going to say too much about what happened on Wednesday night other than my overwhelming feeling about the thing is unfairness.

“I just feel gutted, I feel the whole episode was so unfair that I still maintain I did nothing to deserve either to be sent to the stand or deserve the treatment that I got.

“For me, that’s the end of it.”

McGhee was given a three-match touchline ban in December after being found guilty of abusing referee John Beaton during a 2-0 defeat by Dundee.

One of those games was suspended pending any further breach.

Two further charges were dropped – adopting “aggressive behaviour towards a match official; and/or” adopting “aggressive behaviour towards a steward”.

Meanwhile, Steve Robinson has expressed his delight to be back at Fir Park as part of McGhee’s coaching staff.

The Northern Irishman was previously No.2 to Ian Baraclough and McGhee before taking over at Oldham, but is now raring to go once more in the Well dugout.

He said: “It’s good to be back. I took the first training session this morning and it was good to see everyone.”
