Woman’s fury at being wokenfrompubsnooze

- By STACEY MULLEN Crime Reporter

A WOMAN kicked off in a pub after she was woken up by a member of staff who noticed that she had fallen asleep in a booth.

Lorraine Aiton, 37, was in the dock for sentencing at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

She pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at La Cala Bar on Meadowpark Street in Glasgow on July 26, last year.

She accepted that she shouted, brandished a glass and acted in an aggressive manner.

She also pleaded guilty to assaulting a man by attempting to headbutt him.

The procurator fiscal depute told the court that Aiton was spotted by a member of staff sleeping in a booth in the lounge area of the pub.

The court heard that she had been in the pub for some time consuming alcohol.

The staff member decided to wake her up and ask her to leave.

On doing this, someone else shouted something at her which caused Aiton to react angrily.

The court heard that she gave a mouthful of abuse to a man outside the pub who asked her to go home.

She attempted to headbutt this man.

Aiton’s defence agent told the court that his client had experienced “deep embarrassment and shame” over her behaviour.

He said the mother-of-four did not regard the behaviour as an appropriate example to set for her children.

The court heard that Aiton had not consumed alcohol since the incident last year.

Her defence agent also said that his client “sincerely apologises” to the members of staff.

The court also heard that Aiton had been “drowning her sorrows” on the day of the incident as a result of something which happened in her personal life.

Aiton, of Whitehill Street, Glasgow avoided jail and she was told to do unpaid work i n t he community.

She will complete 100 hours of unpaid work within six months and she has been placed under supervision for 12 months.
