TORAL LIFTED BY GERS PALS AFTER BOSS EXIT

- By GRAEME McGARRY

JON TORAL has admitted he has found it tough to get over the shock of Mark Warburton leaving the club soon after he joined on-loan from Arsenal.

The Spanish midfielder was enticed to Ibrox by the chance to work under Warburton again, who had previously taken him on loan while manager of Brentford.

But less than a month after Toral was reunited with his former boss, Warburton left the club in acrimonious circumstances, and Graeme Murty was placed in charge on an interim basis.

Toral concedes that the situation has affected him, but has thanked his teammates for their support and praised

them for their reaction to their former boss’s departure.

“I said that when I first came here, that he was a big reason for me because I worked for him before, Toral said.

“It’s been difficult, obviously, for me.

“But the team has stuck by me as well and they have really helped me.

“It’s always difficult when a manager goes. But I think the team has reacted alright.

“The results weren’t there but I think we have stuck by the interim manager and we’re going to do that for as long as he is in charge.

“This continues and I am here to help the team.

“It was a disappointment but we have to keep looking forward and there is plenty still to play for this season in the league and the cup and I am really focused on that.”

Warburton managed to speak to Toral before his rather hasty departure from Rangers, and he urged him to prove to the Rangers fans why he had been so keen to bring him to the club in the first place.

“You guys know you can’t say too much because of the way things have gone,” he said.

“He wished me the best for the season and that’s it.

“Before I came here said he wanted me to be part of this and help the team and that hasn’t changed because the manager isn’t here.

“I want to work hard and help the team.”

Incredibly, a similar scenario played out at the club Toral spent the first half of this season on-loan to as well, as following the 22-yearold’s arrival, manager Paco Jemez was sacked by Granada after just six games in charge.

The experiences have shown the relatively young Toral that nothing stays the same for long in the transient world of football.

“Yeah it happened in Granada, this season as well,” he said.

“These things happen at every club, the managers are never safe. But you have to adapt and get used to whatever new manager comes in.”
