Queen’s stop the rot as Rovers’ relegation fears grow

- By JOHN MCGILL

QUEEN’S PARK made their point against Ladbrokes League One Leaders Livingston by toughing out a 1-1 fightback draw at Hampden.

Spiders manager Gus MacPherson had demanded his side stop the rot after backto-back-defeats to Alloa and Brechin.

And he was rewarded with a plucky performance that keeps Queen’s in with a shout of being in the play-off mix at the end of the season.

Livi took the lead when Scott Pittman touched in at the back post despite Queen’s protests over offside.

But Dario Zanatta drilled in the equaliser before the break.

Both sides had chances to bank all three points after the restart but in the end MacPherson was happy to earn a draw.

He said:”The players knew performances have been slack in the last couple of gasmes.

“We have dropped vital points and every one of them could be precious come the end of the season.

“So it was important that we stopped losing because it can easily become a habit and that is the last thing we want.

“So credit to the players for responding well.

“Hopefully now we can build on this result and show the confidence to move further up the league to put us in a challenging position.”

Meanwhile, Albion Rovers remain in the bottom two after their 2-0 defeat to promotionchasing East Fife.

Two second-half goals from Chris Duggan was the difference between the sides at the Bayview Stadium.

Ninth-place Rovers now sit just one point above bottom markers Stenhousemuir and one behind Peterhead.

Coatbridge boss Darren Young admitted his team face a tough scrap for League One survival.

But he added: “We just need to roll our sleeves up and work hard. I have got faith in the players to get us out of this position.”
