Famousface­sas OldFirm rivalry offers fresh drama

FAMOUS faces looked on as late drama unfolded in the Old Firm derby.

Rangers fans were celebratin­g at the final whistle after a late equaliser ended Celtic’s 17-match winning streak.

The home fans thought they were heading for another victory over their Old Firm rivals when, with three minutes remaining, Clint Hill scored for the Ibrox side, sparking celebratio­ns and a blue and orange flare set off from the crowd.

A full house at Celtic Park, including Old Firm managers old and new, watched the game as Celtic looked to continue their unbeaten run.

Celtic legend and former player and manager, Davie Hay was just behind newly appointed Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha, who officially takes over team affairs today.

Celtic’s superstar fan met its young superfan before the match as two of the clubs well know faces met up as Jay Beattie was introduced to Rod Stewart, who was at the match with his own young children.

The Celtic fans inside the ground put on a colourful display of club legends with a massive banner in the stands featuring stars of the past including Henrik Larsson, Jock Stein, Jimmy Johnstone and Tommy Burns.

Outside the match, police kept a close eye on both sets of fans inside the stadium and before and after the match.

Dozens of Rangers fans were ‘kettled’ on Springfiel­d Road by police and i n Garngad a group of hundreds of Celtic fans were closely followed by police as they marched along the road singing and some setting off green flares.

Celtic scored first through Stuart Armstrong and continued their march towards a sixth successive Scottish title.

Police said 11 men were arrested in and around Celtic Park.

Six of the accused, aged between 18, and 39, were held in custody charged with offences under the Offensive Behaviour in Football Act.

Enquiries are ongoing into smoke flares being set off near Celtic Park before kick off.
