Griffiths: No rift with the manager

- By ALISON McCONNELL

LEIGH GRIFFITHS has insisted that there is no ill-feeling between himself and Brendan Rodgers after the player’s lifestyle choices were brought into question by the Hoops boss.

The striker snapped the patience of the Celtic manager with another niggly injury just after Christmas, an injury that Rodgers attributed to not living the life of a professional footballer.

“There’s been a lot of talk about rifts between me and the gaffer,” said Griffiths. “But I want to set the record straight – me and the gaffer have got a great relationship.

“It’s unfortunate for myself that I’ve been injured. It’s just been little niggling injuries.

“But, like I say, I’ve been working hard over the last few months in training to try and get free of them.”

Asked if he had spoken to the manager about his comments, Griffiths said: “Of course I did. I spoke to the gaffer behind closed doors and I knew what he wanted from me.

“It was the exact same when Ronny was here andan I got the boot up the backsideba I needed. Unfortunately,U I got injuredin and thereafter I keptke on getting injured.

“Now I’m fully fit and I ca can train as hard as I can. H Hopefully I get that run in the team sooner rather th than later.”

And Griffiths, who ne netted 40 goals last te term, believes that any qu questioning of his attitude is well off the mark.

“Being at this club, pl playing in the team, means ev everything to me,” said the st striker. “I think if you as asked the gaffer now, my at attitude’s been spot on.

“You’ve seen me come on on, I had a part in the pe penalty that should’ve be been given and done ev everything I can to help us in the game. I didn’t get to too much of a chance, but IsI still should’ve got a pe penalty.”
