Top-six chasers Killie buoyed by two Boyds

- By JOHN McGILL

SCOTT Boyd played a part in former club Ross County’s downfall as he helped Kilmarnock stage a smash-and-grab 2-1 raid at Global Energy Stadium.

Boyd, who enjoyed a memorable 10-year stint in the Highlands with County, signed full-time for Killie in January after a loan move and is rapidly becoming a favourite with the Killie fans.

County were on top for most of the match but despite being denied by the woodwork on a couple of occasions they finished up on the losing side.

Conor Sammon gave the visitors the lead early in the second half before Liam Boyce levelled. But, with just five minutes left, Kris Boyd bundled home Killie’s winner as they moved up to seventh in the table, four points clear of County.

With a top-six place in mind, Scott Boyd said: “With five games to go to the split there is not much margin for error, so it was a massive three points for us today. County are a hard working side, they like to get the ball in the box at set pieces.

“They are a threat and they have quality players up front that can cause you problems, but I thought we weathered it well and defended well and had a bit of luck at times which we maybe deserved.”

County manager, Jim McIntyre admitted lapses in concentration are costing his side dear.

He said: “We’ve got to give ourselves a helping hand and make sure we keep the concentration levels for 90 minutes.

“That’s what has done us in – and that’s not the first time against Kilmarnock this season.”
