Gers hero Mols on track for Ibrox charity run cash

- By STACEY MULLEN

EX-RANGERS hero Michael Mols is fundraising for the club’s charitable arm – by taking part in a 10k around Ibrox Stadium.

The Dutchman, who played for Rangers from 1999 to 2004, is taking part in the Rangers Charity Foundation True Blue Hero Fun Run on Saturday, April 8.

The striker has already raised £400 for the event, which is open to anyone who wants to help raise funds for club’s charity.

On his official Justgiving Page, the star said: “I’m really looking forward to taking part in the 10K – running round the trackside at Ibrox will certainly bring back many memories!

“I hope the fans will join me in supporting the wonderful work of the Rangers Charity Foundation.

“I will need all the support I can get but I’ll be giving it my all for the Foundation!”

He added: “I was proud recently to take on the role of Rangers Unicef Partnership Champion, promoting the Foundation’s work with the world’s leading children’s charity, so I am happy to be doing my bit for this vital project.

“Half of the money raised from this JustGiving page will be donated specifically to the Foundations’ current initiative with Unicef, keeping children safe in emergencies, with the other half going to the Foundation’s other work in the community and beyond. Please do sponsor me if you can, as every penny will make a difference.”

The footballer was at Ibrox yesterday to announce a donation of £25,000 to Unicef UK from the Rangers Charity Foundation as part of an initiative to help keep children safe in emergencies.

The Foundation is supporting Unicef UK’s Children’s Emergency Fund, which reacts to global situations such as famine and conflict which place children in danger.

He said: “I am delighted to announce this significant donation to Unicef UK, demonstrating once again that the Foundation is there for children in their darkest hour.

“Rangers fans are incredibly generous and can be proud that their charitable spirit and support for the Foundation has made this donation possible.

“Unicef is doing incredible work around the world every day. It is tragic that so many children, through no fault of their own, find themselves in very dangerous situations. No child should have to face hunger, violence, lack of clean water or a safe place to sleep.

“Today’s donation will help some of the world’s most vulnerable children and I will be doing my bit to contribute to future donations by taking part in the Foundation’s True Blue Hero Fun Run next month. I hope as many fans as possible will come along and join me on the day at Ibrox.”
